Auld Lang Sine: Facts and Information

After doing some brainstorming with a friend here in Chicago, we came up with an idea to kick our musical asses in gear: have a competition to see if we could finish a music album by the end of the year. Since I know lots of crazy musical mofos online, I figured I'd expand the idea to that realm as well. Add some help from mv, and lo and behold; we officially have Auld Lang Sine.

This isn't a "contest" per se, as there's no official judging, no official winners, and no official prizes. This is just a way for buds to write new music and see what kind of crazy shit we can come up with.

This is the text that introduced the original Auld Lang Sine, hosted by Hellven and limited to a relatively small community. Now in its fourth iteration, Auld Lang Sine is striving to become bigger and better than ever.

Auld Lang Sine originated as a random idea tossed around between me and a friend of mine, since we were both in a musical slump and wanted a way to motivate ourselves to get some material done. I decided, "Hey, why not include some more people?" and once I talked to mv about hosting and sponsorship, the first Auld Lang Sine was on its way.

We're not here to compete for prizes, and we're not here to best each other for some arbitrary title or reward - we're here to make music. Simple as that. We want to inspire a spirit of camaraderie and musical creatiivity, encouraging each other's efforts instead of being competitive adversaries. Creating an album in a matter of months is a challenge as it is!

There's no limit to what you can do musically, either. Previous contest entries have encompassed everything from hip-hop to drum & bass to indie rock to ambient and everything in-between. Heck, we even had one entry dedicated to a German penis enlargement website! The point is to do what you do best and put your best efforts into it, and hopefully come out with something new and enjoyable on the other side.

Auld Lang Sine has a small but dedicated staff, comprised of:

Brian Davis (aka Ubik): Administrator, Webmaster, Creator, Mr. Clean Impersonator
Grey Littaker (aka Issintok): Co-Creator, Promoter, Designer, Kickboxing Poet
Xavier Dang (aka mv): Web Designer, Former Host, King of Scanlines
